2016 BMW X5 xDrive 40e Review. BMW, like many automakers, is moving quickly to introduce their plug-in hybrids. The Bavarian plans to have a plug-in version of every model it sells. And now they have released hybrid version of X5, the X5 xDrive 40e.
Engine
The X5 hybrid marries a turbocharged four cylinder 2.0-liter engine and an electric motor for a total system power output of 308 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Its turbo four engine alone can produce 241-hp while its e-motor produce maximum 111-hp. With a full charged battery X5 40e can go up to 19 miles with top speed 75 mph. X5 hybrids use eight-speed automatic transmission with All-wheel drive as standard feature and always operative, even when this X5 is running as an EV.
Design
Visually, this hybrid X5 have minor differencies with its X5 standard, such as the door on the front fender that houses the charge port and the model-specific badging inside and out. The 9.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack is located under the rear load floor. It makes cargo space smaller, because it’s shrunk significantly in order to make room for the batteries.
This plug-in SUV, X5 xDrive 40e, will arrive this fall as a 2016 model, priced at $ 63,095 with standard all-wheel drive. Its price much more expensive than gasoline and diesel version of X5 (more than $ 5,000 different). But if you want a luxury SUV which also eco-friendly, BMW X5 xDrive 40e is a good option.
